Women in Construction Week Employee Spotlight: Anna Houtz

In-Home Sales Manager – Richmond, Virginia
How long have you been working in the construction industry?

I’ve worked in the construction industry for almost 2 years.

What inspired you to work in this industry?

While the many hours spent building houses on the Sims 4 is what sparked my early interest in this field, it wasn’t until I began managing rental properties that I found a real passion for home improvement.

What are some challenges you face as a woman in the construction industry?

I often struggle with imposter syndrome, but I have been blessed to have other strong women working with me to remind me that I do belong in the room!

What’s the most rewarding part of your job? What keeps you going?

The most rewarding part of my job is bringing happiness to every home- both our customers and those who work under me. I’ve been able to touch so many lives in a positive way, which has been a huge motivator to keep growing with West Shore Home.

What advice would you give to a woman who wants to enter this field?

Don’t doubt yourself- take the leap and apply! You are often more qualified than you give yourself credit for!

What do you do outside of work?

Outside of work, I love to travel, spend time outdoors with my dog, Frank, and tend to my ever-growing collection of houseplants!
