West Shore Home® Spreads Holiday Cheer With Food Bank Donation

The holiday season is a time filled with festivities, giving back and making memories around the dinner table.

However, for some veterans, putting a meal on the table can be a struggle. In Central Pennsylvania, nearly one in ten households receiving food assistance have at least one member who is currently serving or has served in the military.

Our mission is To Bring Happiness To Every Home® and that’s needed more than ever during the holiday season. That’s why West Shore Home® joined together with MITER Brands and Penn State Football to Tackle Hunger.

For every sack against opposing quarterbacks the Nittany Lions recorded in October, West Shore Home and MITER Brands pledged to donate $1,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s (CPFB) MilitaryShare program.

MilitaryShare’s goal is to provide nutritious food to veterans and their families. In 2022, its 31 distribution sites served more than 10,000 people. An operation this large can use all the helping hands it can get and that’s where our Tackling Hunger campaign comes in.

Thanks to Penn State’s defense, 12 sacks were recorded in October, adding up to a $24,000 donation split between West Shore Home and MITER Brands. But the companies decided to pledge an extra $1,000 for a total of $25,000 to the CPFB to help veterans in need across Central Pennsylvania.

“This generous gift from our two long-time partners, MITER Brands and West Shore Home, will help us continue to improve the lives of our veteran neighbors and their families by providing the highest quality service and nutritious, nourishing food,” said Joe Arthur, CEO of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “Veterans face life-threatening challenges – many of which are the result of serving our country – and deserve more help than the government can provide,” he added.

In the 2023 fiscal year, MilitaryShare distributed more than 3.5 million meals, which equates to more than four million pounds of food, including 1.5 million pounds of fresh produce.

At West Shore Home, we pride ourselves on being Exceptional Teammates and Doing The Right Thing Always. On top of our monthly volunteer nights at the CPFB, our teammates recently volunteered at a MilitaryShare site handing out food boxes directly to the veterans we are supporting.

A community is a family – we are thankful to be a part of so many. And we are proud to help our veterans who served our country so we can celebrate freely.

Happy Holidays from West Shore Home!
