Women in Construction Week Employee Spotlight: Khalysha Gordon

Level 3 Lead Installer – Houston, Texas

What’s your name, where are you from, and how long have you been working in the construction industry?

My name is Khalysha but I go by “Khae”. I’m originally from Mobile, Alabama. I enlisted in the National Guard in 2016. This is where my journey in the construction industry started.

What inspired you to work in this industry? How did you get started?

While serving in the Army in 2020, my unit was building different platforms for marksmanship training. This kind of got me interested in construction. I joined the Houston branch of West Shore Home in September 2022 as an installer and have worked my way up to a Lead Installer.

What are some challenges you face as a woman in the construction industry?

Just knowing that I want to prove that I deserve to be here just as much as everyone else.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job? What keeps you going?

The most rewarding part of the job is seeing our customer’s reactions when the job is completed. This, along with knowing that I have more to accomplish keeps me striving to get better every day.

What advice would you give to a woman who wants to enter this field?

Don’t be comfortable with just “ok”. Keep striving to get better. Never sell yourself short.

What do you do outside of work?

I love spending time playing basketball, reading, and gaming.
