Deserving Students Awarded West Shore Home Scholarships

August 7, 2020 – Mechanicsburg, Pa – West Shore Home is proud to announce the winners of their Continuous Improvement Scholarship program. The scholarship program began as a way to give back to the founding community and home location for West Shore Home, LLC. The winners were selected from a pool of seniors who have made a positive impact in their local community through a service project. Students submitted their projects to a small council that ultimately selected the winners, which included assisting local conservation centers, rehabbing park trails and building storage facilities for their schools.

“We wanted to find a way to recognize young men and women who embody our core values – Extreme Ownership, Continuous Improvement, Being an Excellent Teammate,” said B.J. Werzyn, owner of West Shore Home. “It is an honor to recognize these students and assist them in their continued pursuit of excellence. We hope that sharing their stories will remind everyone how a small project can make a huge impact.”

The scholarship includes a third, second and a first-place prize. The third-place winner will receive financial assistance for textbooks and learning materials as they move onto a two or four-year academic institution. West Shore Home announced that the third-place winner was Daron Bingaman of Upper Dauphin Area High School. Daron built and hung 12 duck boxes at the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art in Millersburg, PA. He hopes that these duck boxes will help to protect the wildlife that live in the park from predators. Daron plans to study Metal Fabrication Technology at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The second-place winner will receive a brand-new laptop to assist the student in the next step of their academic career. West Shore Home announced that David Wang of Hershey High School was the second-place recipient of the Continuous Improvement Scholarship. David completed a rehab project for Gelder Park in Hummelstown, PA. During his project, David built and installed new signage, created barriers for hiking trails, provided landscaping and rehabbed park benches. David plans to continue his education at a Penn State campus and study history, psychology, statistics or communications.

The first-place winner will receive a $5,000 yearly scholarship to any two or four-year academic institution of their choosing. The recipient of West Shore Home’s 2020 Continuous Improvement Scholarship is Jonathan Lentvorsky of West Perry High School. Jonathan is a dual enrollment student who studies at both West Perry High School and Harrisburg Area Community College. Jonathan’s constructed a 12-foot by 24-foot storage shed for the West Perry Boys Baseball team so they could store their equipment during practice and games. From planning, gathering donations, ordering materials and even construction, Jonathan led the whole way. In total, this project took his team 670 hours to complete. After graduation, Jonathan plans to attend Penn State at Mont Alto to study Criminal Justice. After graduating from Penn State, Jonathan would like to serve his community by becoming a state trooper.

West Shore Home wants to thank all of the students who completed projects in their communities and applied for this scholarship.

Following in line with our core values of extreme ownership and continuous improvement, we are also excited to announce our upcoming Homeschool Heroes event. This fall, we will be recognizing a family who is juggling working from home while also educating their children. This year is one of unprecedented sacrifice, especially for families with school-age kids, and we’re so excited for the opportunity to give back to a local hard-working family during this time. The recipient of this giveaway program will get a shower or bath remodel completely free of charge! More information regarding the timeline for this giveaway program will be announced in the weeks to come.
